In addition to the OSIP Award given to student-athletes, The OSIP Foundation has developed three awards that are awarded annually on a rotating three-year basis to recognize members of the community who exemplify OSIP's mission through their roles as players, coaches, parents, fans, officials, and media members. The awards are given at the annual gala.
The John Landy Award for Sportsmanship Excellence
John Landy (1930-2022) was an Australian athlete (and later governor) known for middle-distance running. At the 1956 Australian National Championships, he stopped in the middle of his race to go back and check on fellow runner Ron Clarke after Clarke tripped and fell. Landy helped Clarke to his feet, allowing Clarke to resume the race. Even with the deficit created by going back to help his competitor, Landy ended up winning the race.

On March 31, 2011, Bryan Stow (b. 1968) was assaulted outside Dodger Stadium following the Opening Day game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants. Stow, an EMT and Giants fan, took his two kids to the game wearing his Giants jersey. He was attacked simply because he was wearing the shirt of the visiting team and continues to survive with permanent brain damage and other deficits. Stow's assault is frequently cited as what ultimately set the wheels in motion to formulate OSIP.

Ricardo Portillo (1967-2013) is the second sports official in the United States known to have died following assault stemming from his job as a soccer official. Portillo was officiating in Utah when he was punched in the head by a 17-year-old soccer player who had just received a yellow card; he died one week later.
